![]() Williamson Park lies on the eastern perimeter of Lancaster approximately 1 mile from the centre of the city. Immediate access to the park is through the city centre, which has excellent communications to the north and south, being only a short distance from the M6(See Map 2) There are also regular train services to nearby towns and London is just over 3 hours away by train. Lancaster itself is a highly attractive town with a strong commitment to growth, especially in the tourism sector. The City already has a number of attractions ranging from the Castle and Priory Church, to the Maritime Museum and City Museum. Concerning the visitor market for the Park there are approximately 2.83 and 8.34 million people living within one hour and one to two hour's driving time of the City respectively. This driving time is used on the basis that people travel by car to day visitor attractions. A further 3.19 million holiday visitors are estimated to visit the North West region (defined as Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside) during the main visitor season and from outside this two hour drive time, while other types of tourist trips and day visitors are estimated to total a further 4.36 million on the same basis. This gives a significant estimated market to draw upon during the holiday season. |
